First Blog Post

Imagine walking down an old country road. It’s a dirt and gravel road with no cars only the sound of crickets and the bees buzzing. You bend over to pick a flower and as you stand back up you spot a well-worn path among the trees. You’re hesitant at first but climb over the ditch and begin to see where this path will lead. As you walk you hear babbling water and think it will lead to a creek or something. You keep walking enjoying the sounds and coolness of the trees. A few more feet ahead the trees open into a clearing and you find yourself in front of a little cabin.  You hear the rustling of leaves behind you and a cat rushes out of the bushes and trots by you and up the front steps. The screen door squeaks open and older lady steps out and scratches the cat’s ear. The lady looks up and sees you standing there. Her face breaks into a smile, “Hey, I see you’ve met Teddy,” she says cheerily. You give a tentative wave, not wanting to intrude. The lady reaches her arm out and gives you a welcoming wave to join her on the porch. You nod and head up the steps and take a seat in an old rocker. “I was about to have myself a cup if tea, would you like a up?”  “If you’ll excuse me I’ll go fetch the tray.”  The screen door squeaks and bangs shut. You sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.  The lady returns with a try with two mugs of steaming tea, sugar, a bowl of lemons, and a plate with some home baked cookies.  As she sits the tray down she introduces herself. “My name is Michele and I am so glad you stumbled onto my little piece of Heaven.”  She invites you to add what you like to the tea and to the cookies. Michele continues to say, “I have spent meany years dreaming about this place.”  “I spent so many years I followed others around and listened to their advice about who I was and who I should become.” She hands you a cup of tea and continues, “For far to long, I listened and did my best to do what those voices and people told me to do, telling me the dreams I had were silly and just not possible in this world. Michele takes another sip of tea and sets her cup on the tray. Looking at me she asks, “Have you ever found yourself in a situation like that?”

I realize this is a very unorthodox blog post. I’m sure it is even more bizarre way to start a blog period! If by chance you have made it this far, I hope you will stick around for a cup of tea and a chat, or just to see what kind of kookie old lady might do or say.  If you see yourself in the above discussion, you have raised your children and they are busy creating their own lives now and you are just sitting around thinking, what on earth do I do now? Stick around, grab that cup of tea and let’s talk about what that new adventure might be.
